The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) is the world's largest humanitarian organisation, comprising 191 member National Societies. Guided by seven fundamental principles — humanity, impartiality, neutrality, independence, voluntary service, unity and universality — the IFRC works to prevent and alleviate human suffering before, during and after disasters, health emergencies and other crises. Its Secretariat, headquartered in Geneva, manages global relations, national society development, and corporate services including a Finance and Administration department responsible for budgeting, accounting, treasury, financial reporting and related services. Reporting to the Coordinator, Accounts Receivable, the intern is responsible for processing travel assistance claims for National Societies attending the 2026 Statutory Meetings. Specific duties include: coordinating with focal points within the IFRC Secretariat and National Societies to calculate and prepare statutory travel assistance payment requests; maintaining travel assistance tables in OneDrive and filing all claim requests; following up with National Societies on executed payments; monitoring expenditure under the travel assistance budget line for statutory meetings. The intern also provides general day-to-day support to the Accounts Receivable team and collaborates with National Societies and regional offices on travel assistance matters. A relevant university degree is required. A recognised qualification in accounting is preferred. Ideally, a minimum of 3 years of experience in an accounting position, with experience in a multinational or multicultural environment (major commercial company or international organisation), and experience in humanitarian or not-for-profit organisations. Required skills include high numerical accuracy, strong analytical skills, good computer proficiency (Windows, Word, Excel, Outlook), knowledge of multi-currency accounting systems, and effective communication and interpersonal skills with a service mindset. Knowledge of IFRC financial systems and software is an advantage. Fluent spoken and written English is required; a good command of another IFRC official language (Arabic, French or Spanish) is preferred. The opportunity to gain practical accounts receivable and finance experience within the world's largest humanitarian organisation, based at IFRC's headquarters in Geneva. The intern will work in a diverse, multicultural environment and contribute directly to the coordination of the 2026 Statutory Meetings. The role offers exposure to international financial processes, multi-currency accounting systems, and collaboration with National Societies and regional offices across the globe.
